A (good) cover is a good investment. If you want to ensure that the paint doesn't get scratched though, be aware that you will need to wash and dry the car before putting it on (each time)
A quick wash/dry should be fine though, don't need to go to town.
If you're not gonna be driving it regularly, make sure the coolant is new/correct concentration (old or weak antifreeze mix is bad for engine internal corrosion) and connect the car up to a smart car charger/battery conditioner - I did a review of some recently.

I know I had rear brake issues which needed sorting after being neglected and not driven, exacerbated by having the handbrake on too tightly, (if that makes sense).
I leave mine in gear and try to remember to lightly apply handbrake.
