JohnnyB's 'lude
Re: JohnnyB's 'lude
haha yep I suspect the fireworks are past their prime unfortunately, we bought 2 packs about 5 years ago and the first lot were so disappointing we never bothered with the second lot
Good news tonight, I got a replacement coil for £18.49 from my local motor factors, a bargain! Or it would have been had it fit in the distributor
The metal casing was far from square and the captive nuts were about 2mm out of position
Fortunately I was able to swap the casing from the old coil onto the new one and it went together fine. 5 litres of 99ron Tesco special fuel and half a litre of oil later and she fired up on the first turn of the key
Next I investigated the n/s headlight. Bad earth fixed and its working again
It seems 4 and a half years open to the elements haven't done my electrical connectors much good
The only lights not working now are the foglights - the rear I need to investigate, the fronts aren't connected so that was no surprise - I need to get hold of the relay from somewhere, I have a switch ready to go in. For some reason I can't get the connectors together, I suspect they're corroded so might end up chopping them off and replacing them.
And there was light!

All the suspension bits are painted and ready to go back on now. Jobs left to do are:
- Strip and repaint front and rear ARB and refit with new droplinks - they won't go in the cabinet so have to do it the old fashioned way
- Paint n/s rear arch with underseal
- refit rear suspension and refurbished ARB
- refit front ARB
- replace o/s steering rack boot
- fit and bleed rear calipers
- fit front and rear disks and pads
- fit wheels
- Investigate and fix rear fog light
- fix any new problems I encounter
- cross fingers and hope for the best..!

Re: JohnnyB's 'lude
2 days in to my 4 day weekend and I've already got a lot of what I had planned for the weekend done. Suspension is all refitted, brakes are all fitted and bled and the rear ARB is repainted and back on with new drop links. I've got the front ARB to strip, repaint and refit with new drop links and the steering rack boot to fit, then various bits of trim, wheel arch liners etc to go back together.

Re: JohnnyB's 'lude
Yeah, high on the list. I've got the rear arch panels in the garage waiting to go in, I just want to get the MOT done first so I know there are no other major issues. I've got some cash put aside for it but can only spend it oncemercutio wrote:you need to sort that rot buddy

Re: JohnnyB's 'lude
I'm trying not to get too excited, I've been close a few times before but this time I can almost smell it

Wifey has mentioned today I've got to finish the tiling in the kitchen but I'm hoping I can get the 'lude done first
No progress since the last update, but I will be buying some eBay clips to refit the arch liners etc this week and will be sending payment for a 4WS lock pin after posting this so should be ready to MOT in the next few weeks all going well!!

More exciting news
Wheels back on!

Engine running but still need to refit the intake and sort the earthing out, lots of bad connections it seems

Where's it gone?!

At this point 3 of my neighbours poked their heads around the fence wondering what the hell the noise was and why the noise appeared to be moving
A very quick spin around the court (private road
) to check all was working to some extent and then I parked her back up

I know she needs a damned good clean but there are a few niggles I need to get sorted first. Rear fog light is still not working - it's a spoiler brake light turned upside down, it's getting 12V but the LED's are only lighting very dimly, at the moment I'm assuming its an earthing problem. I also haven't managed to get the steering rack boot fitted but I'll get the garage to do that while they're refitting the CAT - It's booked in for MOT on Friday afternoon so I'd appreciate some crossed fingers
In all seriousness I'm expecting her to fail but at least I'll then know what else needs sorting and hopefully will be able to get it all done in time for a free re-test in a couple of weeks time
I also managed to sort insurance through Adrian Flux this afternoon, £390 fully comp with all mods declared and a £150 excess, was quite happy with that. I remember paying £1600+ when I first bought her

She looks so tiny next to my Astra as well - I'm not used to seeing her at that level, she's been about a foot taller for the last 4 years
