God knows what has happened to this car (been used as a tractor?) but the underside and arches had been absolutely caked in mud before I got it - I've never seen a car like it!

The sill covers came off and were also full of mud...

Image

But how's that for rust free sills? :D

Image

Old bits (back) and new panels (front)

Image

Door might look ok now, but shows up just how bad the paint job is on that rear quarter panel even more!

Going back together. New lights and wing loosely fitted

Bumper test fitted

Ok it's dark now, but you get the idea :D

Very pleased with the result and what we managed to get done in the time!

Gotta refit the arch liners, undertray, indicators and corner lights, foglights, refit the door loom and internal panel and she's done ready to go off for a bonnet swap!

Bonnet has always had that crap alignment along the wing btw (high at the back). The hinge is bent and I'll sort that when the new bonnet goes on...

(I forgot to take pics of the corner all fully straightened and rust protected before the panels went back on)

Grrr... Schoolboy error.

Finished re-building everything (including putting the loom in the door, weather skin, door card etc) and forgot to check the glass colour on the new door.

Doh!

Wrong bloody colour. All the other glass on the car has a brown tint, the new door came with a blue tint grrr... #-o

Gonna have to dismantle the door again and swap it at some point now!

(It can wait till the car goes for respray)

Ok, so update.
Busy last weekend... Olympic stadium/park Friday, Cardiff for the football on Saturday (got back 0630 Sunday morning urgghhh) 4 hours kip then up to strip the car and get it into the bodyshop.

So I thought the other side was full of mud, look at this one!

But...

Image

Sills still rust free :D (the colouring is the mud, not rust)

A few small bubbles in this arch, but nothing bad at all.

So then by the end of Sunday, it was in the bodyshop after we'd finished doing the basic stripping.

Why some idiot had glued the mudflap into the bumper as well, I don't know... (all screws were there)

And today, rear and 3 quarter screens are out (windscreen's staying in cause the frame is rot free and there's no seal to get in the way of the rubbing/painting)

Pass rear arch metal repairs done.

And today in between rebuilding/modding the UKDM, missus and I re-furbed the wiper arms and rear window trim strip.

Image

Rear trim strip was in good enough nick to try a refurb rather than replace

(The rubber edges look bobbly cause they're vaselined up so the paint doesn't stick!) Will see how well that turns out...

Had some gutting news this week...

All the painting on the car was finished by last Thursday as planned, but by this Tuesday, the laquer still hadn't gone hard - paint fail! :(

The bloke at the bodyshop was more upset by this than me though - the only solution is to rub it back to metal and start again!

Won't be finished by JAE though, so it won't be coming. Hopefully ready for Japshow Finale though???

Righto, this is a well overdue update.

There are plenty more pics of the paint process during, but I haven't got copies of them yet.

So this was it on the Saturday morning of the South Mimms meet (Oct 2012), ready to be rebuilt by us and driven home.
Plan was to do that and go straight off to Mimms with both ludes on the Sunday, but that didn't work out...

Image

Lots of shiny things ready to go back on...

Mirror mirror on the wall... :D

Image

Yep, extent of the respray went this far... (excuse the poor pic quality, difficult to photograph under such bright lights in the booth)

Image

Image

Image

Image

Basic front end back together, with the missus's choice of facelift nostrils

Image

Not bad alignment considering how hard a life the front end of this car has had
