Great restoration project :D

Tell me though... Do you really think you'll squeeze that motor into it? ;-) ...

Hi,

I could find a windscreen pretty easily, they still make them in Denmark, I think. Rubber bits are trickier, I am currently out on a quest searching for a new rubber seal to go around the moonroof.

There is one thing that bothers me though and it is that upon a more serious inspection today I realised that when the engine bay was painted, the bits down on the bottom got almost completely neglected and there are some properly mucky bits too. This means that I have to lift the engine to get to the very bottom of the bay. Since there isn't any more left of the paint used for the body, I will use underside coating over the bottom third of the bay. It's not going to look brilliant but should do the job.

I removed the valve cover today and underneath everything looks clean, no excess oil, just a fine layer of it over every surface. Obviously I had to remove the air filter first and looking inside the carburator things didn't look half as good. While the carb of the donor car was looking good, this one's mucky inside with deposits of all sorts of colour and consistency. Would it be wise just to swap the carbs and set things up that way?

A little update here:
I removed, cleaned and painted the valve cover, the air filter housing, the frame of the cooling radiator and the fan. I could not remove the fan blades from the shaft, they seem to have grown stuck together. None the less, they look really good now, better than I expected, as I've never done anything like this before. :) So far in my life I have only driven and washed cars, so it'll be a steep learning curve for me. I am going to post some pics tomorrow, hopefully of some more exciting progress.

More update, this time pics only. I didn't want to write an entire novel for captions, but you can see what the pics are trying to say.
The most "exciting" ones are those of the engine-bay, especially the bits where it's obvious that even a "friend's" bodyshop can do a shitty job.

As attachments have temporarily been disabled, I made up a html page with the pics:
