Advanced forum search terms

I can't seem to get the advanced search to work properly.
For example if I want to see all posts where someone has written oil filter, on most search engines I'd type:
oil +filter
OR
"oil filter"
But this just seems to bring up every post with the words oil and/or filter in. So I get stuff about engine oil, air filters, fuel filters, etc.
Is there a way to do more specific searches?

Use "these" (forgot what they're called

) around your search term?

You're right, not working as I'd expect it to either. Will dig deeper tomorrow.

Ummm seems better but still something funny going on. Do a search for "oil filter", then on the first page of results, scroll to the bottom and click next, or 2. Takes me to the advanced search page

You're right, it loses the search terms if you switch pages. I'll have a look again.
