Damnit, it's a '95 auto he's breaking. That's got to count as a late model I reckon.

I can't find any mention of the key trapping thing in any of the manuals though, does anyone know what years had this for sure?

There was a thread on here somewhere which is where we discovered it. Someone had a key stuck in their ignition (after an auto-manual swap IIRC maybe???)

Have a search around and see if you can find the thread. That should help point you in the right direction.

One place that the system is mentioned in the manual though (just did a quick look from memory) is supplement 62ss023 page 23-8 onwards.

Impressive knowledge of the service manual!

Now that I know what I'm looking for I can see it's mentioned in all the supplements, but not the first ('92) edition. Now I could take my life in my hands and order the one from a breaking '92 auto that I've found.

I found a huge old thread about the key lock and had a good look through. Seems like it could be a right hassle if the interlock is present. :(

There might well still be a way round it - depending on how the locking mechanism works... Might be possible to remove it from the barrel? Or connect a feed to it so it never engages?
Don't know without looking into it more.

There probably is a way round it, I'd much prefer not to be in the situation to start with though! :)

Fingers crossed I've found a manual one now. It might not have the ignition switch with it (I'm waiting to hear) but I can get that elsewhere (fingers crossed again) and at least I can be sure it's compatible.

Mine had the interlock, and it's a 91 JDM, though it was quite easily removed from the barrel.

Went with an auto one in the end, the garage didn't report any problems getting it working. I'd warned them about it anyway.

I now have the rare security feature of different keys for door locks and ignition. ;)

Thanks for your help guys.
