An engine failure on a Range Rover Vogue recently led to Warranty Direct’s highest ever claim of £13,000.
WTF?! :tosser:
That's ridiculous. Surely even a new engine in a Range Rover and labour to fit at main dealer shouldn't cost that much?!

And does the "top/bottom 10" only show the top 5 for anyone else, or is it just me?

Putting MG Rover in there is a bit pointless really, since their newest car is 8 years old now. Those failures will all be full of overheating because owners forgot to check the coolant header tank is full on K-Series engines, or from head gasket failures on the vvt MGTF engine I bet. Personally, I found the K-Series was a brilliant engine.

I find it hard to believe the figures: "Honda scooped the gold medal – the study found that just one in every 344 Honda engines failed, compared to one in every 27 Audi engines."

If 1 in 344 engines failed, even the 'gold medal' cars were less than reliable than their 1950s equivalents. There were 2,044,609 new cars registered in the UK in 2012 (cf. Car magazine). Even if they were all Hondas, that means 6000 will suffer engine failure a year.

I suppose it depends what they mean by 'engine'. If a piston goes, fair enough, but does a coil pack count? The aftermath of a blown hose could easily stuff an engine, especially if the driver's a berk (like I have been in the past ...) but I don't consider that to mean that the engine itself failed.
