Insurance question!

Hi guys.

If my car is on my private driveway (declared Sorn) and something happens to it such as neighbours crash in to it or a brick wall falls on it or it gets stolen, then who is responsible? like how can I insure that?

Can I still get the insurance out and not drive it anywhere? Just so that it's insured? Just got scared as last week these two 'pikey' looking blokes came up to my house, knocked on the door and asked if this car was for sale. :o :| :scaredtoss: :scaredtoss: (constantly looking out the window now days when I'm home)

Plus, wanted to ask about 'agreed value'? When I get my car back on road can I set up a agreed value with the insurers so just in case something happens they will pay out my "agreed value" no matter what? :|

Thanks for any input guys. :)

if your car is on the drive, I would have it insured

my friend stopped his insurance, then his calibra got dragged off the drive and burnt out

classic car policy is the way to go for agreed value, but not sure the lude is old enough

You will need to try and get a "Laid Up" policy covering fire & theft, some also include accidental damage.

Not many insurers do this any more though, a few show up with Google such as http://www.performancedirect.co.uk/car- ... icies.aspx but i have no idea how good any of these companies are.

I had my agreed value insurance on the silver 4th through Lancaster. It was a classic car policy, but it meant I couldn't accumilate NCD. That was fine though as they still worked out a lot cheaper than the next best without an agreed value.

Classic car policies can be quite restrictive, it varies but here are some of the potential requirements:

Vehicle must be a second car
Vehicle must be garage
Proposers must be over 25
No modifications (other than certain safety modifications/modernisation)
No business use
Net rated (ie don't accumulate NCB)
Limited Mileage (some have a maximum of 5k)

Vehicle must be a second car My only car
Vehicle must be garage I have no garage that will fit a car
Proposers must be over 25 Yep, just!
No modifications (other than certain safety modifications/modernisation) 10 or so modifications
No business use I had commuting but not business use
Net rated (ie don't accumulate NCB) Normal for a classic
Limited Mileage (some have a maximum of 5k) I do 5k a year in the car as I use the trike more
I have a classic policy on the Aerodeck with Sure Term and this is how I stand on those points. Think I paid about £500 last year, and I was just 25 at the time, and was on either 3 or 6 points as well, can't remember which, so not bad really.

As Shiny said, it's all down to the broker or underwriter on what they will accept. At my place, we will only do a classic policy if it's pre-1990, kept garaged, proposer is over 25, and doesn't have business use (commuting to multiple places of work).

Mine's in a similar position. I just bit the bullet and kept paying for the insurance.

Guys is it true that if you don't renew or get insurance under your name in a year then you loose all your previous no claims bonuses.? :? :o
