I got a new phone at the weekend and switched from Vodafone to O2 due to crap signal both at home and at work. O2 are offering insurance for £7.50 per month. Are there any good cheaper alternatives?

Hey. Barclays does a basic account from around £5 that includes mobile phone insurance. I have had the same policy for years and very happy with it. They also cover stuff like ipads, ipods and other gadgets.

But don't forget you have to register your stuff with the bank. Mate of mine didn't realise and thought he could just walk into Barclays with a broken phone...

Oh definitely. Goes without saying. Any of the staff will be happy to register for you. Problem is people just want the account and walk away. Book an appointment and make the most of the time.

If you have personal possessions cover under your household contents insurance, it is probably covered already, although a claim will be subject to your policy excess/loss of any NCB and it won't cover the cost of calls so it may not be ideal.
Just be careful of any stand alone policy and check the terms and exclusions very carefully. They are not always as good as they make out.

£84 a year for an iP4s with a £50 xs! That is a lot of premium for a £400 phone!

To be fair, if you were silly enough to get an iPhone, you'll likely be silly enough to pay whatever they want
