If you'd asked "Which number makes you think of 1/2?", then fair enough, but you didn't, you asked "Which number makes you think of half?", so again... Half of what?

:? Am I missing something? A fractional half, be it 2/4, 3/6, 4/8 etc. always reduces to 1/2, which when not relevant to a mentioned number (so this is very applicable in this case since I mentioned no number to which half pertained) is just... a half, or one half, of one.

And the 5/16 (8mm) - 5 16 8 thing.

5/16 is clearly not equal to 1/2. 16/8 is 2, then I saw the 5 and thought of 0.5 or half (lol). So then I thought half of 16 is 8 and how the 5/16" to 8mm relationship is beautiful.
I still don't agree with the "half" necessarily meaning 0.5 (Not in a logical sense), but what's more 5/16 of an inch is actually 7.9375, not 8!

But why? If I told you I had a 4 and a half inch penis (very respectable), wouldn't you assume I meant 4.5, not 6?

And that bombshell has ruined my night.

Has she sent you pictures of her parking, to really rub it in?

BTW, I'm not playing your game - neither are half. 1/2 or 0.5 yes, but not the crackers bum droppings you put on the vote.

I'd assume 4.5 because you said "4 and a half". "4 and half" is 4 and half of 4 (2), which is 6.

And I'm very happy about that

I think it was "which one makes you THINK of half". Neither are half, except of 5 which is half of ten. 5 would make me think "half" :) :)

 Didn't realise I'd missed out an a in the poll question

In my defence though, everyone else got it and I did clarify I meant A half on page 3

Half of one. :? :|

As in, a half
.
Is this where your confusion is coming from? Either way you are being very finicky with your words :P  "Which ones makes you think of half?" should be took to mean what I say - half, which at it’s most reduced fraction is 1/2 whether it’s half a million or half a banana. Half is 1/2, 0.5, 50%, 1:2, however you look at it.

NafemanNathan wrote:"4 and half" is 4 and half of 4 (2), which is 6.
Let's pretend I said 4 and half. Half was never referenced as being relevant to 4, even more so since I made use of a unit that is equal to 1 ([4] and [half] inches). I didn’t say 4 and half of 4, or four and half of that, or four and half again, however many ways there are that I could say it.

Easy way to proof this:

[four] and [half]
[4/1] and [1/2]
4 1/2

[four] and [half of four]
[4/1] and [2/1]
6

Because no-one else saw your error? And it was already too late by page 3

Of course half is referenced to 4. There are no other previous numbers involved (If there was then I would have had more questions for you  ), I could assume you meant "4 and a half", but I have to question why you didn't say "4 and a half". My conclusion would be you didn't mean 4 and 0.5, you meant 4 and half of 4 (2) ;-)

But ok now, lets finish this. In response to your question "Which number makes you think of half?" a) 5 or b) 1.2...

Neither :| Although I can make them both half of something.

And in response to what should have been your question "Which number makes you think of a half?" a) 5 or b) 1.2...

Neither :| Are you mad?!
