Do you know any hints and tips about them?? Like me he's always been a Honda nut and these are all new seen for him.Sailor wrote:Excellent.
My lad's really pleased with his so far.
Congratulations to vtecmec for winning May/June's Lude Of The Month, with his DIY Turbo BB1 build.

Only run it on 99 octane, warm it up before driving it hard and let it idle for 30 secs to a minute before turning it off. They don't like to sit at high revs for a long time either, those Scooby engines are built for sprinting. I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff but there is a fair amount of do's and don't on the Legacy forum - was really handy when I got mine. Subarus are really reliable if looked after properly, most of the ones that blow engines do so due to driving habits and poor maintenance more than anything.damon wrote:Do you know any hints and tips about them?? Thanks mate i will pass the info over to him. Have you still got one? Did you do any mods? He wants to try and find a good place to get it mapped? Ment to be a bitch to get into the ecu's.jjmartin349571 wrote:Only run it on 99 octane, warm it up before driving it hard and let it idle for 30 secs to a minute before turning it off. If you don't want to let it idle at the end of your journey (eg: because of where you have to leave it!) you can always drive the last 2 or 3 miles on gentle throttle. The thing is to have the engine and turbo as cool as possible at switch-off.
Clutches can go if they're given too much of a hammering and we've just replaced the gearbox mount. As above, it's about driving style. Smooth can be fast, too.
The twin-turbo set up is often criticised for having a slight lag just before the larger blower kicks in. This can be from air leaks. It's a fiddle when reassembling them and the inter-cooler, and seems to be the main reason why owners go to the single-turbo conversion. Set up well, though, and I can't see anything wrong with the design.
We haven't tried to map Jan's, but have a look around for Impreza tuners.
