My first Lude had a bonnet catch fail happen to a previous owner. The OEM latch gave out at 70mph and the OEM bonnet flipped up and smashed the windscreen.

Ah crap! Gutted for you mate. I do prefer the plainer dark bonnet though. :?

If you need the roof respraying, I'd vouch for black - I um'd and ere'd for a while whether to change mine during it's respray but havn't looked back.

Merlin: Ouch! An OEM bonnet would do some serious damage I'd imagine.

Dont sell up. I know it knocks all of the enthusiasm out of you when this sort of jobby happens, I was the same when that daft wotsit drove into mine a few months back, even after all the work I'd done, for a moment you do consider selling....
Trust me: sort it, drive it, fall in love with it again 8-)
I know you have a few handy helpers up there in tartan land ;) , I'm sure you could sort it in a weekend with a few pairs of hands :)

thanks for the kind words - took the roof liner off and we managed to get some of the lighter creases to pop out a bit but theres a huge metal reinforcement beam at the top of the inside of the windscreen and thats where the deepest dents are so not likely to be able to pull them out so it would have to be a skim and paint - black being the favoured option or go for a vinyl roof or is that too 1970's  - others that have seen it think it should repair ok - i think it may be beyond a diy job but might be worth a go :?
will decide tomorrow what to do :)

Frankly, if you're considering selling what do you have to lose :?:
As for beyond DIY, look at that rear ended 5th that the chap on here just sorted, with a little thought and some stubborn perseverance, anything is possible :D
Go for it mate, I'm sure it'll turn our fine.

And you know just which side should win out :-D

Would a slide hammer help pull those remaining hard to reach dents out ok (that's done from the outside) so any filler is minimised?

If you're not keen on repaint, I think carbon fibre wrap would look better than vinyl?
