7 hours driving and came back with an empty trailer. Very disappointed.

Loved the car, but was just too rotten. A full body restoration required and I just don't have the time for one of those. Plus a couple of the bits needed will be unobtainable.

Gutted
Apologies Iain, I thought you were being funny.

Rufus Hound?

There's no need to apologise!
I wasn't joking, but I wasn't at all having a go or annoyed at what you said, either

I've been wanting a 1st gen for ages and have been in discussion with the owner of the blue one on carandclassic for a couple of months, since it was advertised.
I knew it needed work (had a light front collision, rotten bonnet and rear quarter panel and I expected it would need a few other bits too) but it was complete, a good colour in and out and manual. Plus, it was affordable! (£3k is way out of my price league) and something I could slowly work at over time and put back on the road. So, I'd agreed a price a good few weeks ago and was going up to collect it yesterday with Phil.

Unfortunately though, it needs a lot more work than that. Rot in the A-pillars, around the sunroof, the door bottoms, the rear panel, rear valance etc. and the sunroof is cracked (couldn't see any of this in the pics). None of it is terminal, but it's bits all over the body, everywhere, so it's a full bare shell restoration job.

I'd love to take it on, but that's too much for me on top of what I need to do to my other cars. I took loads of pics and I'll get them uploaded shortly.

Having seen one up close and sat in one though, all I can say is that I want one EVEN MORE than I did before. Absolutely loved it

It is save able and there are some good points (the sills are solid and most of the underneath for example) and I do really, really hope someone buys it to restore, but it needs someone with vtecmec or confused's dedication and ability to put the time in.

*sigh*

So the search for a 1st gen for me, goes on :(
