Got home this evening from Germany, where we briefly met the lads on their bikes. They've got Ring plans, but I've had to miss out this year in the end. Boo hoo.

At least we got protection on the boat.
The exhaust scrapes the upper ramp, so I always ask to go as a 'low car'. Outside for the first time this trip ...
... which meant we were only the third vehicle off.

Meh. Impressive performance at the time, but not much else going for it for me personally.

Incidentally, I once had the pleasure of watching a 440bhp Cossie blasting up and down the road in front of me full tilt while I was waiting on an ambulance (I'd fallen off my CB500s, but nothing serious). What was really impressive was how much utterley, obviously and crushingly faster the standard R1 was that was doing the same.

Also incidentally, the ambulance driver checked me over carefully and said my leg definitely wasn't broken, but my thumb might be. They x-rayed both. You guessed it, my thumb was fine and I had a nice spiral fracture just above the ankle!

Hope it was good, Sailor.

Depending on the period of R1 you're talking about, the fj12 was still faster mid range, doggo. Hope the trip went well, sailor, did you get to ride the gixxer, or the zx?

Indeed, but I do stress, it only applied to early R1's, they soon outclassed what was by then the ageing fj. But still impressive.

The Ninja's my son's; the GSXR belongs to his mate. I don't think I'm up to riding either of them nowadays, to be honest. Even the ZX6R that preceded the 10 was too much for me. I'm much happier with four wheels, so if you can get me a Kawasaki with outriggers, I suppose I'd give it a go. :)

On his third lap on Sunday, Jan was forced onto the grass by a nutter in one of those bonkers Meganes. He managed to save it - just. Another biker passed him, chasing after the Renault. There was a fracas in the car park. A door was damaged. The car driver had left yellow paint on the biker's boot!
Police and stuff.
Apparently, the driver was blaming the bikes for not moving over far enough - in mid bends. Yet there was only a few seconds in it between them on the whole lap, so it was all for nothing.

I heard an opinion expressed today that all car drivers should be made to ride bikes before getting their full licence.
They just don't understand.

Mmm, the bike licence before car licence debate is quite an old one, and remains very imotive.
