Gorgon, out of interest do you know what is the thermal conductivity for titanium is? Can't seem to find it...

Air is a good insulator hence cavity walls :)

There's a list here: http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/therm ... d_858.html

Again compared to steel it has a much smaller range.

I don't know a lot about metals, but just happened to have finished a physics module on energy transfer last week :P

Probably nothing that advanced, more likely fine grains of the rock added to the liquid titainium before moulding or something to that effect so its more mixed rather than anything else.

Yeah, but then science and maths is all small numbers and jobby! I think it just comes down to the grades of metal used, you could have some really high quality stainless, and some shitty grade titanium and they would be fairly similar, but reverse that and you have quite a big difference.

Isn't 4thgenphil doing something to do with engineering? Maybe he knows more, I'm not even sure why we cover this kind of thing when I'm on an animal oriented course :P
