Voltage regulator duff - possibly alternator?
Update I put a voltmeter on the alternator main terminal with the engine running, it showed just over12 volts, the battery is showing just under 12 with the motor running. Satisfied the alternator has retired itself, I've ordered a new one. This car has the most immaculate service history, so I know...

Voltage regulator duff - possibly alternator?
Thanks fellas. I've disturbed my alternator recently when changing the cam belt, so it'll be a good idea to check the wiring to ensure there's nothing amiss there, before lobbing out £130 for a new alternator. I note Max's successful experience changing the voltage reg on it's own - but if the wirin...

Voltage regulator duff - possibly alternator?
Thanks for your reply Scott. I've been pricing up a new alternator this morning and ascertained that the voltage regulator is part of the alternator as you described. The ignition/battery light works normally, in that it comes on with the ignition key and goes out when the engine starts - indicating...

Voltage regulator duff - possibly alternator?
Guys, Hoping for some learned intel on this battery charging snag on my 5th gen 2.0i Prelude. It’s very much like the problem Blockh3ad has reported, my battery is not being charged when the engine is running. The difference is - the ignition light does NOT illuminate - even though the voltmeter sho...

New member saying Hi
Hi Nathan, We’re near neighbours - I’m in Ilminster - but keep my Prelude in a barn in the village of Barrington where it spends the winter tucked up out of the bad weather. I’m in the middle of lavishing lots of TLC on it prior to it going back on the road in April. It’s a great car, absolutely a k...

Engine bay layout know how - help needed
I’ve had my 5th gen 1999 2.0i Prelude for 4 1/2 years and apart from basic oil servicing - it’s needed nothing, so I’ve hardly had to put my head under the bonnet. The car is now having lots of TLC, new cam belt, water pump and both serpentine belts, with a big service, brake fluid change and a new ...

Poor quality aftermarket parts
Yes, I did the same Eddie - lobbed out for a genuine Honda item. The young lad in my local dealer was curious about the Prelude when I went in to collect the seal and was genuinely interested in it. I removed the ill fitting/leaking seal and fitted the genuine one - which fitted superbly - and now t...

Poor quality aftermarket parts
I realise this is an often voiced complaint - dirge quality parts that last 3 heartbeats then fall off! I've been changing my 2.0i Prelude's cam belt, as this involves removing the rocker/valve cover, I ordered in a new rubber seal kit for it. It came from eBay, but it was a Blue Print item, so thin...

5th gen 2.0i auto - sometimes won’t turn over
Thanks Wurly for the intel about the ignition lock recall. I called Honda UK, the wee boy who answered was very helpful, though he was younger than my Prelude...! He confirmed that the car has been subject to the ignition lock recall - so that settles that I guess. I note your points about P and N l...

5th gen 2.0i exhaust queries
Thanks fellas - appreciate your excellent help. The diagram of the exhaust system was really helpful Wurley - nice one. Both of you guys seem clued up - whereas I'm still an apprentice with Preludes - so I wonder whether you know the answer to this wee conundrum; I'm in the process of changing the c...
